BEGINNER class description:
In a hands on, easy to understand, and FUN! format, we will cover the basics of digital photography. Beginning students are those who are new to the world of photography and/or have little (or no) camera knowledge. Perhaps you are transitioning from film to digital…Or, you simply want to try out photography. Also, a good refresher course for people who have already taken my class.

ADVANCED class description:
You should already have a working knowledge of your digital camera and it’s basic functions including how to manually turn off your flash and change ISO setting. Be comfortable in referring to your camera’s manual - you will learn more about the creative. The focus of this class will be on creativity, composition, and finding your individual shooting style. Image presentation and turning your hobby into a money making craft will also be covered.

Weekly assignments will be given in both classes to help you create stunning and professional looking photographs …all while having some fun! Please bring your digital camera, batteries, memory card along with the camera's manual to the first class. If you are unsure of which class is best for you, please contact me to discuss.

Vote for Shira-Lee on FOX TV

For those of you who haven't already been watching Fox TV's new reality show, On the Lot, Tuesdays @ 8 p.m., I hope you'll tune in (or at least watch online) and cast your vote for sexy acting teacher gone film making contestant. I've had the pleasure of shooting Shira-Lee Shalit's headshot and she used this photo as part of her submission to the show. I'm thrilled to see how far she's getting. Now I want her to WIN! This is one of those shows where it's up to the viewers to cast our votes and choose the winner. You don't want America picking the wrong person (think Taylor Hicks from American Idol).

Teaching a Digital Photography Class

In this three part workshop, I taught a room full of photo enthusiasts how to use their digital cameras and develope their 'artistic eye' to be more like ME! Topics included: composition, depth of field, shutter speeds, flash use, lighting, focal lengths, uploading files, and emailing photos. At one point during "portrait day", I was caught in my students' firing rage when I became their model-fun?! I'll be having more classes like this in the future; so, please do send me your name and be added to the waiting list!

Last Chance NYC! - Seattle for 6 Weeks!

This is a "last call" to get your photos taken by me! I'll be leaving NYC to go to Seattle for six weeks- leaving February 15th, 2007. Audition season is near and actors want new color headshots- busy, busy; so, call now to reserve a shoot. I'll be going to the Emerald City to work my photography magic on an exciting coffee table book project (more on that later!). If you are familiar with that city or know anyone there, I'd love to hear from you!

New York City, Time Square New Year Pictures - Happy New Year!!!

Being a professional photographer has its perks. By shooting an event on New Years Eve, I was able to have full access and rubbed elbows with the press. I had a great time!

Published in Advocate Magazine

The image I took of Richard Burns appears in the New York Magazine and the Advocate Magazine celebrating his 20 years as the executive director of NYC's GLBT Center. Lately, I've been doing more event photography (tis the season!) and snapped this pix of host Kate Clinton (shown left) at a party held in his honor.

Project Runway, Malan, and the HEADSHOT I took

BRAVO! and Congratulations to Malan Breton for his appearance on Bravo TV’s hit show Project Runway. Seems he’s been a busy boy and has recently opened his own shop here in NYC. Get the latest scoop on that and more from his blog: www.myspace.com/malanbreton

His fans on that site seem to really like this B&W shot I took of him several years ago. Here are some of their comments:

DavidJMartin.com has A NEW LOOK!

Check out my new website www.davidjmartin.com. See if your photo is on it! The hardest part of getting the site done was deciding which photos I wanted to use. There were a lot to choose from and you all looked so good. So, if you don't see your pix on there now, check back periodically as I will be switching them out in order to handle my indecisive issues.

As most of you already know, it's all about COLOR headshots these days and I'm now shooting digitally in color. Are you still using an old black and white shot? As always, I'm willing to work around your work or school schedule: days, nights, or weekends are possible.
